Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is Role Upgrade?

A SaaS platform that lets Discord server owners sell paid subscriptions and memberships. We handle payments (via Stripe and PayPal), automated role assignment, analytics, and customer management.

How much does it cost?

Our Free tier charges 2.9% + $0.50 per transaction with no monthly fee — you only pay when you earn. The Pro plan ($29/mo) reduces the rate to 1.9%, and Business ($79/mo) to 0.9%. Enterprise plans are available with custom pricing.

What payment methods are supported?

We process payments through Stripe and PayPal. Stripe supports credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and various local payment methods depending on your country; PayPal supports PayPal wallet and PayPal Checkout.

Can I use my existing Stripe account?

Yes! During onboarding, you connect via Stripe Connect Express. You can use an existing Stripe account or create a new one.

Subscriptions

What happens when a payment fails?

The subscription moves to past_due status. The customer receives a DM and email with a link to update their payment method. After the grace period (configurable, default 7 days), roles are revoked and the subscription becomes inactive.

Can customers cancel their subscription?

Yes. Customers can cancel via the Customer Portal, the /cancel bot command, or you can cancel on their behalf from the dashboard. Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period.

Do you support free trials?

Yes. Configure trial periods per-package (e.g., 7-day free trial). Roles are assigned during the trial, and billing starts automatically when the trial ends.

Can I offer one-time purchases?

Yes — set the billing interval to "one-time" when creating a package. The role will be assigned permanently (unless manually revoked).

Discord Bot

The bot can't assign roles. What should I do?

Drag the bot's role above the target role in your server's role hierarchy (Server Settings → Roles). The bot can only manage roles below its own position.

Can I use the bot in multiple server?

Yes. Add multiple server in Settings → Server. Each server can have its own packages, roles, and audit channel configuration.

What happens if a member leaves and rejoins?

The bot automatically checks for active subscriptions when a member joins and restores their roles if they have one.

Payments & Billing

When do I get paid?

Payouts follow your connected payment provider's schedule (Stripe or PayPal). For Stripe, payouts follow your Stripe payout schedule (default: daily with a 2-day rolling delay). For PayPal, funds are available in your PayPal balance or transferred according to your PayPal account settings. We deduct our platform fee at the time of each transaction.

Can I issue refunds?

Yes. Refund through Stripe, our dashboard, or via the bot (/revoke). When a refund is issued, the subscriber's roles are automatically revoked.

Do you support multiple currencies?

Yes. Set your default currency in Settings. Each package can be priced in any currency Stripe supports.

API & Integrations

Is there a REST API?

Yes. Our public REST API v1 provides endpoints for packages, customers, subscriptions, analytics, and promotions. See the API Reference.

Can I receive webhook notifications?

Yes. Configure outgoing webhook endpoints in API & Webhooks. We support 13 event types with HMAC-SHA256 signed payloads. See the Webhooks guide.

Migration

Can I import from another platform?

Yes. We support imports from LaunchPass, Upgrade.chat, PayRole, and generic CSV files. See the Migration Guide.

Will imported subscribers be charged?

No. Imported subscribers are created as records only. You'll need to set up Stripe subscriptions separately for future billing.

Security

Is my data secure?

All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest. We never store credit card information — all payment processing goes through Stripe. API keys are stored as SHA-256 hashes.

Do you comply with GDPR?

Yes. We provide data export and deletion capabilities. Contact support for data-related requests.
